Joseph graduated from UNM with a degree in finance cum laude from the Anderson Schools of Management in 1990. Soon thereafter he began employment with the State Farm Insurance Companies at the Sunland Regional Office in Tempe, Arizona. Joseph gained experience in Underwriting Management, Agency, and Property and Casualty claims. He returned to Albuquerque in October 1997 working with State Farm in the newly formed Casualty/Litigation claim unit. While employed with State Farm Joseph also earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in 1996.
Joseph earned his Juris Doctor in May 2002 from UNM School of Law. He
began his legal career in September 2002 with a local insurance defense law firm
practicing in the areas of general liability, products liability, professional liability,
workers’ compensation, and trucking and transportation.
In November 2005 Joseph and his brother Phillip G. Sapien formed Sapien
Law, LLC. The firm practices in the areas of personal injury, criminal defense,
wrongful death, workers’ compensation, wills, estate planning and community and
governmental affairs. Joseph is a member of the following professional legal
organizations: American Association for Justice (AAJ); New Mexico Hispanic Bar
Association (NMHBA); Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and the New
Mexico Trial Lawyers Association (NMTLA). Joseph is a board member of
NMTLA.
Joseph enjoys working on his fitness on a daily basis, mountain biking,
hiking and skiing in the beautiful mountains of New Mexico. Joseph is also a
coach of the Longfellow Elementary basketball team. Joseph is married and has a
young daughter who is the love of his life.
