Amazon Sued Over Teen's Death From Caffeine Overdose

The family of Logan Stiner, who died of a caffeine overdose in May, says that Amazon and six other companies involved in making and distributing the caffeine powder violated Ohio food and drug safety laws. According to the suit, the companies are responsible for labeling products and should have known that the Hard Rhino pure caffeine presents “a substantive danger” when misused that ordinary consumers like Stiner would not have realized. Family of canal drowning victim files $30 million lawsuit against Pittsburg

The suit alleges the city did not do enough to prevent Dennis Sandoval's car from falling into the canal and that there should have been a barrier in place, better warning signs and other safeguards.

Sandoval, of Pittsburg, was driving home from work after 6 p.m. on April 1, 2014, when his eastbound car failed to negotiate a left curve on West Leland Road. His car went over a curb, through a chain-link fence and into the canal, landing upside down in 5½ feet of water.... Link to Full Article


Family sues Publix for wrongful death of 11-year-old boy

Derek “Landon” Wood, 11, of Sterrett, Alabama, died of anaphylactic shock on June 3, 2014, after eating the cookie, which that had not been marked as containing a food allergen, from the Publix on Tiny Town Road.

The family is suing for mental and emotional distress and suffering, as well as punitive damages in an amount to be determined by a jury.

Family sues Spectrum Health for negligence in Forest Hills teen's death

Parents of Quiniece Henry, 13, learned in February 2014 that the Forest Hills seventh-grader had Burkitt lymphoma - a fast-growing, non-Hodgkin cancer - which doctors said was treatable with chemotherapy. Less than a week later, Quiniece died of complications resulting from an intravascular line that caused a perforation to a chamber of her heart, a medical examiner determined.... Maryville, TN parents file lawsuit against diabetes products maker after daughter's death

Ken and Leyanne Harper say in the suit that their daughter Abbie, 23, used FreeStyle brand test strips and a FreeStyle blood glucose meter embedded in an Omnipod insulin pump. The Harpers say the meter and strips produced “erroneously low blood glucose results,” which caused Abbie's death in November 2014.

According to the wrongful death suit, the test trips were defective because of a manufacturing error and the FreeStyle meter embedded in the glucose pump was not compatible with FreeStyle test strips.

Parents Awarded $1.5M in Oklahoma Teen Drunk Driving Case

Parents of a 17-year-old Oklahoman who was killed in a traffic accident in 2012 have been awarded $1.5 million in a civil case settlement.

The Oklahoman reports that Donna and Duane Kerns have settled with Woodshed Liquor Store, which sold vodka to their son, Colton Kerns, in 2012.
